Dive deeper, and water pressure squeezes the spring-loaded caseback tighter! Twin crowns, a spinning inner bezel, and market leaders from Longines to Jaeger-LeCoultre's Polaris make it the swaggering darling of sixties divers everywhere. Splash Down!

And in that rich history is the sadly sunken story of the obscure Delvina, a Swiss brand belonging to Solvil et Titus, the Geneva house founded in 1892 by Paul Ditisheim, son of Maurice Ditisheim, who founded Vulcain.

The Delvina trademark was registered in the United States on August 15, 1969.. Delvina made robust sports and diving watches, but seems to have stopped trading at some point in the 1970s.

This lovely eye-catching example uses the celebrated Super Compressor case. EPSA developed and patented the design back in the halcyon days of 1956, using water pressure at depth to push the caseback harder against its O-ring seal. The second crown works the internal rotating bezel, and it is powered by the ETA 2783 automatic with quickset date.

Tech Specs.

Reference: Delvina Geneve, super compressor
Year: c.1973
Movement: Automatic, Cal 2783
Service History: Unknown
Dial: Black (though looks a little dark blue)
Measurements: 42mm (case diameter), 41mm lug-to-lug, 14mm thickness
Water Resistant: No
Crown: Original hatched double crowns
Strap/Bracelet: non-original stainless steel bracelet
Lug Width: 22mm
Box & Papers: no
Warranty: 3 months

Watches modelled on a 7” (18cms) wrist

Condition:

Who doesn't like a super compressor watch especially when it's red, white and blue. I particularly like cushion type cases, they always seem to look serious and yet fun and this is a big, substantial watch that sits proudly in that tradition of 70's dive watches.

The tritium lume no longer shines but the big round pots and hand lume have turned to a lovely wheat colour. The acrylic crystal is possibly original and has scratches all over it but that adds to the appeal of the watch; the case is in pretty good condition for its age, but has scratches and a few small dents; please be aware and consult the images. The crown is a little stiff, the quickset date works and needs gently pulling out one stop to work but the watch is running strongly despite no service history. The inner bezel is bi-directional. The watch has had a good clean and the bracelet has dived into the ultrasound bath and said that the water was lovely and warm.

If you want a slice of obscure diving history and want to collect something just a little different then the Delvina might just be for you.
