It's not a pilot watch and it doesn't have a reference number, but it's one of Zenith's outstanding models with no model indication.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal\"\u003eWhat it does have apart from that dial and the lovely waffled style outer ring around the indexes to give the watch some subtle contrast, is a fantastic movement.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal\"\u003ePrior to the automatic rotor movement it was an English watchmaker called John Harwood who invented the bumper movement in 1923. It was a kind of pendulum style see-saw hammer action that turned the mainspring without manual winding. Omega, various other manufacturers and Zenith followed suit and producer their own versions until it fizzled out and evolved into the rotor. It's a delicate mechanism and needs  servicing by a first rate watchmaker to get the most out of it. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal\"\u003eThis watch is powered by the Zenith Automatic Calibre 133.8 which was launched in 1951 and which replaced the first version: calibre 133, which had debuted in 1948. Rather than the now-standard 360° rotor, it winds via an oscillating weight that travels a 180° arc, arrested by buffer springs that bounce it back — you can feel the \"bump\" when you move the watch in your hand. It seems that the case at one time was plated with rhodium to protect and enhance the original chrome - so a previous owner thought enough about it to do that and invest in its future!
